Eminent academic and law reformer Dr Warren Young has been appointed a trustee of the Mahara Gallery Trust Board.
Dr Young has spent 30 years working in, and studying, aspects of the criminal justice system. He has been an academic, senior civil servant, law reformer and most recently General Manager of the Independent Police Conduct Authority.
In 2015 he was appointed a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order for services to the law.
Gallery Board Chairman Gordon Shroff says the board is delighted to secure the skills and experience of Dr Young as a trustee.
“Warren’s legal background and knowledge of the public service will be of obvious value,” he says. “But he also brings experience of helping people improve their access to the arts through a previous role chairing the board of Arts Access Aotearoa.
“We see that experience being invaluable as we work to expand the reach of Toi MAHARA in the Kāpiti community and greater Wellington region.”
Arts Access Aotearoa seeks to increase access to the arts for people who face barriers to participation as artists, performers, audience members, and gallery and museum visitors.
Warren Young has a BA and LLB (Hons) from the University of Auckland and PhD from the University of Cambridge.
He replaces Jill Griggs – whose term has ended – on the Toi MAHARA board of trustees.
