Joanna Margaret Paul’s paintings and drawings often invoke places she lived in and visited. Kāpiti was a region she frequently returned to, drawn back by friendships and as a refuge.
Much of her work was produced in an improvised way on kitchen tables or plein air, which enabled her to work anywhere.
Her journeys formed the daily diary of her life’s work, finding poetic significance in everyday places and ordinary things.
The exhibition was curated by Gary Freemantle.
