Dr Pamela Gerrish Nunn will discuss the artworks in the Selections from the Field Collection exhibition. She will discuss their relevance to the exhibition, and their place in the collection.
Toi MAHARA is the home of the Field Collection, a collection of 44 works, 24 of them paintings by Frances Hodgkins (1869–1947), considered New Zealand’s most significant expatriate artist. It is the largest collection of Hodgkins’ work outside Te Papa Tongarewa and city collections in Dunedin, Auckland and Christchurch.
This exhibition will be the first showing of the works of the Field Collection in the newly redeveloped Toi MAHARA gallery.
Dr Pamela Gerrish Nunn, formerly professor of art history at the University of Canterbury, is well known internationally as a specialist on women artists of the 19th and early 20th centuries. She has published articles and given conference papers on Frances Hodgkins, curated an exhibition of Hodgkins’ works at the NZ Portrait Gallery and contributed to several Toi MAHARA exhibitions.
This event will be held upstairs and numbers are limited to 30 people. We can provide limited seating to anyone who needs it. Please email info@toimahara.nz to register your intention to attend, including the name and time of the event in the subject line.
