Lagoon at Waikanae is an example of one of Isabel Field’s favourite compositions, that of landscape viewed across water. There is a sense of movement and life conveyed by the bent reeds the the circling birds. Isabel Field’s treatment of the sky is loose and features gestural brushstrokes—possibly influenced by Frances Hodgkins.
